Any way to have accurate shipping pricing for carriers (UPS, FedEx, etc) depending on the address?

I am creating a shopping cart and checkout process where I want to have the website automatically calculate the pricing for the shipping depending on the delivery address that the user puts in. I wanted to do this and include all major carriers UPS, FedEx, and DHL but not have to manually keep checking the pricing for each of these services and their shipping pricing. Has anyone done this or seen this done effectively?

John,

I've got a client that had the same need you've expressed above.

I found this available web service from Aivea http://www.aivea.com/eshipinfo.htm and have got it up and running.

It works pretty well, especially since I took the time to put all the appropriate cartoned weights/measures into the database as part of the product details. I haven't had any reports from the client of the shipper refusing to take the item, or "auditing" the amount quoted by this webservice.

There's also the added benefit of being able to print the shipping labels based on what the person has selected for their desired shipping tier.

It's the most comprehensive solution I've found that provides access to many shippers. I started searching to find public (free) web services from the individual carriers, but it was starting to become a pain in the butt.

I hope this helps!

John,

I forgot about this one: http://www.dotnetship.com/

This is for .NET, and the reason I didn't use is for the client above was because their solution wasn't using .NET.
