How do I stop the drop shadow tool from repeating in Adobe Illustrator when I draw items?

I drew a box in illustrator and then applied a drop shadow. The problem is, whenever I draw another box or any other element afterwards it applies the dropshadow to that also. Is there any way to stop this?

Taking a guess here but is there not a toolbar or menu option to stop/uncheck the drop shadow filter? It could be a case of toggling it on and off.

I figured this out myself but forgot to post.

What you need to do is open the Appearance menu. If it shows up there, just drag and trash the shadow and it will get rid of the shadow on the new item. Thanks for the response nidhi.
