I'm looking to have users fill out a form online and then render a printable PDF that looks pretty with the user's information on it, but not sure if you do this with web technologies or if there are other ways to do it. I know of a technology called VDX but I would need to buy a new server to get the functionality and that is really, really expensive. So, wanted to see if there was anything else out there.

There are a number of third-party controls out there - including dynamicPDF that will allow you to generate a .pdf of your web page in almost a templated format. These controls are not free, but they're also not what I would consider "really, really expensive"...they're usually under $750. I know these exist for traditional ASP as well as .NET implementations. Checking out http://www.dynamicpdf.com will show you the differences between the different versions offered...I've worked with the Professional level which has support for most of the controls offered in .NET

There's a number of ways to do this. What programming language are you using?

We are currently using ASP, but I want to merge into .Net. Does it matter?

Ya it does, the server side language will do the dynamic PDF creation. I've used FDF before (http://partners.adobe.com/public/develop...). I recommend it. Do you have Acrobat Professional, you're going to need that too jdee

John, If you're going to move to .NET in the near future, I'd still recommend that you look at the dynamicPDF offering. From looking at the FDF offering noted above, it's great for creating forms, but I didn't see much that suggested creating a PDF doc of the web page itself. DynamicPDF supports creating forms in addition to giving you the opportunity to render the page in its entirety. Also, DynamicPDF is stand-alone on the server. You won't need to purchase Acrobat Professional unless you need to create off-line PDF documents. Take care, Ric
