Reprogramming my Dell Keyboard Hot Keys

The referenced software is not on my system. The article doesn't mention where to go get it; it's also not on any of my Dell disks.

I did some more searching, and found this link. Is this the proper utility for configuring my Dell multimedia keyboard?

Anyway I got there, from your link, looking for file
R44838.exe
at the Downloads search "Search by keyword or filename" on the right-side column

I finally found the proper file and it's already installed on my machine. But, when I click on the executable (mmkey.exe), it brings up the control panel for my Create Sound card instead of the Dell TouchKeys panel. I reinstalled it in a different folder with the same result. For some reason, it's grabbing my sound card controller instead of the keyboard one. I verified this with my Dell Resource CD as well; I have the right file....

Use RegEdit to open the registry and navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey
The subkeys here (on my Dell Enh Wireless KB) correspond to a subset of the 'programmable' keys. They are 15 - Mail, 16 - Musical notes/Ausio key which is by default runs mmkey.exe, but I just substituted wmplayer in the ShellExecute subkey to run MS media player, 17 - My computer, 18 Calc.exe, 7 - web browser. Hope this helps.

Interesting; my keys correspond pretty much the same as yours, but "mmkey.exe" brings up my Audigy sound card mixer controls and not the keyboard control as I think it's supposed to and used to. I've reinstalled the mmkey a couple of times from Dell's site, but nothing seems to fix it. Ideas?

How do I reassociate this mmkey to my keyboard controls? That seems to be the problem...

I'm sorry, WSC, it looked like an abandoned question. When people don't respond to the admin message within reasonable time, we close them in order to reward the experts that tried to help you out for their effort, even though it didn't solve your question.

dont know if your still after an answer but i just had the same problem and it turns out to be a faily easy fix.
in the registry the location mentioned by ambonsall tells you what the file type for each button are, check the default file association for those file types, example, web browser (folder "7") Association is http, check what program http files open in by default that is what program will open.
change it to firefox or google chrome for example and that is the program that will open.
the audioo button "16" the file type is .cda change the file association from WMP to iTunes for example and that is what will open.

pretty simple.

Well, maybe because your browser and windows system are not compatible, you'd better change your browser or maybe you can try the software tuneup360, which can help you solve all the computer problems.

i need info on how to get my keyboard back to its original operating state. i have to hold the keys down for a few seconds each to get them type

For the music application can you use itunes?

can someone tell me exactly what i have to put in the association key for iTunes, also i'm trying to put Windows Live Hotmail as the email , not using an application just Internet Explorer 9, Any hel would be greatly appreciated, the simpler the answer the better, I've got a sight problem, than in Advance

found another way of solving this problem:

Using regedit, navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey\16

Right click on entry "association" and rename to "ShellExecute".
You can then double-click on the entry and type the name of the executable you want to run. eg "winamp.exe" or "itunes.exe".

Tested and works fine on my system.

if you follow my above instructions, but instead of inputting the name of the executable, just put the web address you want to go to.
eg "www.hotmail.com" or "www.gmail.com" (minus the quotation marks)
