computer that will not open web pages using a browser

Hi
I have a computer that will not open web pages using a browser. Both IE7 and FireFox are affected. The computer will connect to the network AND to the internet. Any program that does not the a browser to connect to the internet works fine i.e spybot 1.4. The computer seems to be clear of viruses. Spybot found StarWare but thats gone now. No firewalls are running and the winsock has been reset.
Starting to run out of ideas now.

Open your browser and write this:

207.46.19.190

or

64.233.183.99

If your browser displays the pages, then the problem could be DNS. Useful information:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/network...

Do you have a router installed? Do you have any firewalls installed? If so check the settings, ensure browsers are allowed. You could try disabling your software firewall, see if it makes a difference.
In IE, go to Tools/Options then Connections tab - what do you have listed. Now go to advanced. Is anything listed on there?

wow this is an old question.
do you by chance have something in your proxy settings?
(tools->internet options->connections tab->lan settings) uncheck all boxes.
if you have zone alarm installed (I agree it's a great program) uninstall it completely and reinstall it later.

I have a very similar problem. Links clicked with not open, however if you right click on the link and open it in a new tab it will work that way. Also Windows Explorer will not allow me to view any folders. What I mean by this is when I click on a folder it will not open the contents of it. This also happens in My Computer as well. Once I restart the computer it will work fine again for awhile. I thought at first it had to do with this Windows update support.microsoft.com/kb/918165, but I removed the .exe and it still happens. I have also found it happens on another computer as well so that eliminates hardware. Get this, I was sick of it doing this so I formatted my computer, and the problem came back after Windows updates ran. I think it is related to the support article do not fix it.
