My computer will not talk to my HP 1210 printer. It was working fine

My Vista computer will not communicate with my HP PSC1210 "all-in-one" printer. It was working fine, then all of a sudden it stopped and showed "paper jam". I opened the back access door and found NO paper jam. The error would not go away even after restarting both computer and printer. I uninstalled printer and reinstalled drivers several times and it will not even print a test page nor will it show up in HPs printer diagnostics utility. When I plug into the usb port the computer makes the connected sound.
