System Restore

I have a folder on my Windows XP desktop that can't be deleted. It's been suggested that I use System Restore. I don't know exactly when I mistakenly created this folder. It may have been several weeks ago. How far back should I go? If I go too far back, will I lose everything I've created in the intervening weeks? How about programs I installed in the interim? I've used Restore, but only short-term -- a day or two back.

what message do you get when you try to delete it?
file or folder still in use, or security privilages. you don't need to use system restore.
in either case, try restarting in safe mode to delete it.

if it's a security issue, then while in safe mode, right click on the problem folder and select properties. go to the security tab and add "everyone" to the list and give "everyone" full control.
apply these settings and try again to delete this folder.

The last thing to try is to set up a new user as a computer administrator. Log in with that user and type in the run command c:\documents and settings\(old user)\desktop\
be sure to replace (old user) with the appropriate user name.
your problem folder should be listed. simply delete it, log off and log back in as the original user and delete the temporary user you've just created.

Dont restore, it will cause more harm than good. Whats the error you get when you try to delete.

There is this program called unlocker http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/. I am assuming you cannot delete the directory because maybe something has it locked? Try unlocker to see what app has got hold of it and you may be able to kill it that way.

You can also use a program called "Dr.Delete" which will delete any un-needed files inside that folder which is preventing the folder to be deleted. Its a free sofware which doesnt require installation: http://www.docsdownloads.com/dr-delete-1...

After you delete the file, maybe then you can delete the folder.

Also remember, system restore removes all installed programs since the date you revert back to, but it wont delete any personal files (e.g. word documents, MP3's, AVI's etc...)

If u cannot delete it.there might be process running on the same name of the folder. So first kill the process and then delete it.You will not lose any date after system restore.
