The Registry System and Internet Explorer

After a while when i am using my computer my internet explorer keep displaying that cannot connect page, and i cannot access the internet. but the weird thing is that my torrent program keeps working and so does msn messenger? i have avg, avast and windows firewall running. when it does not work i run avg and it find that C:\windows\system32\shell32.dll changed and so has C:\windows\system32\ntoskml.exe i think this is what is effectin my internet explorer. but the thing is wen i rin search it does not fin a virus or anything and does not stop it from happening again? What can i do to stop this, obviously other that reformating my computer. Thanks Clint

you have checked for viruses but have you checked your spyware also? AVG Antispyware is good one and free too!

if the problem is only affecting Internet explorer, I'd either check firewall software or internet proxy settings or if you're simply working in offline mode.
Check your add remove programs list (start->run->appwiz.cpl) and look for any firewall software.
IE proxy settings:
open IE, go to tools->internet options->connections tab->lan settings
uncheck ALL boxes and try your webpage again.
IE offline mode.
open IE, go to tools->internet options->connections tab->check "Never dial a connection" and select OK.
now go to File->uncheck "work offline"
try your webpage again.

There are very few reasons why browsers would work for a short time and then stop. I've seen torrent programs wreak havoc on DSL modems (Particularly ZOOM adsl brands) I've not yet been able to fix their problems except to set my torrent program to periodically stop all communication for 1 hour several times a day. Power cycling the modem helps out a bit also. Anyway, try turning off your torrent program for a while and see how everything runs.

Some other options:
1. throttling your bandwidth usage for your torrent downloader, or speckling it's usage. (non-continuous usage)
2. Upgrade the firmware on your routers and modems.
3. Quit using P2P programs. (I know this is not a popular option, but it is a valid one)
4. Change your ISP.
