Hi, Normally when I close my laptop it automatically enters standby or hibernate mode. But these last days it gives me this error message instead: "System standby failed The service 'Print Spooler' is preventing the machine from entering standby. Try stopping this service and try again." I have a Dell laptop with Windows XP on. How do I stop this service and why did it even start? Hope you can help, David

Its because your laptop is connected to network where there is a network printer. You can either disconnect the network or uncheck the print spooler service in your msconfig>services happy stanbys....
