Why is the video screen showing in really weird colors for some of the news sites I watch?

I was trying to watch video on CNN over the internet, but on my new computer the video is not coming out clear. It looks like a tiedye shirt with all different bright colors. I can still see the figures somewhat, but it obviously is not working right. Any suggestions. Also, the advertisements before the main feature show up fine. Not sure what is going on here.

It could be the quality of the video that is being streamed. It if was a codec issue, it probably be no sound or video.
it could also be the bandwidth you have, note it does vary from time to time. But then that would affect buffering more than anything else.

What type of video card do you have on your new computer? Nowadays, they should all handle video properly. Your video card may have some settings options, might be something in the system tray or if nothing there, try changing colour/resolution in control panel.
So play about with your video card config settings and see if that helps.

Go to this site and look at the streaming http://www.tv-video.net/
How does it compare to CNN's site?

Have u got the latest DirectX? v9c or something I think. That might be worth a try.

What s/w are u using to view streaming? or is it online using browser. If online, what embedded s/w is being used Im wondering whether some other install as part of that s/w is affecting it.

You could get some more codec drivers, check this out. This is the one I use http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Li...
Im saying this cos u might have a codec not quite right

what is s/w?

I tried http://www.tv-video.net/ and I could see it fine. Was hoping that I could run into someone that has experienced this before or has heard of this exact experience and knows a fix.

Have u got a link to that CNN video u was watching?

s/w = software

I am thinking that if other streaming works fine then its an issue with CNN streaming and not on your laptop. But I can help verify this if u send me a current link with which u are having problems with.

Well, its any video that I play on there but here is a link:

http://www.cnn.com/video/player/player.h...

Not really sure why, it is definitely remote to my laptop though and it is brand new Dell Inspiron 6400

Here is a link:
http://imagesource.cnn.com/imagesource/C...

At the TECHNICAL ISSUES section there is information about minimum specifications, troubleshooting and a link if you need technical support.

Ok, I checked out the link and its fine for me. I am also at work so behind a firewall.
Started with an ad then chaos in tripoli.

Now Im just thinking whether it is codecs. Have u tried installing the codecs from k-lite mega codec pack?

Also, here is a FAQ from CNN http://edition.cnn.com/help/video/ u may find something of use to you there.

Nobody answered the question but CNN did switch their player so it is not an issue anymore.
