When windows XP shuts down there is an error message that pops up momentarily that reads: "The application failed to initialize because the windows station is shutting down". In the error box header it reads: " DLL Initiation Failed". It is a roque application error that is annoying at every shut down. Where is this routine stored in the registry and how can it be eliminated? Thanks.

Is there any recent applications you may of installed. What antivirus s/w are you using, Norton perhaps? Have a look at event viewer and check the logs. That might give some indication on what its complaining about, Might be worth doing a spyware check, and maybe run hijack this and post the log here. You could have a dodgy program trying to run but your security s/w might be stopping it.

Check the application event log (control panel->administrative tools->event log) this should tell us which DLL is causing the problem. once identified, open services.msc and set that particular service to disabled and restart the computer. This usually happens when you have a program that integrates into the explorer shell, such as adobe update manager, and then fails to run. From nidhi's post, hijack this would be an excellent way of searching for the offending dll.

Actually most times there is no need to rebuild or reinstalled your PC windows system, what you need is a PC protector. Tuneup360 is good choice, you just need to click one big “fix now” button and get your computer fixed at once.
