During the cold war , in the years following world war II , eastern european countries were united under the control of the communist government of the soviet union. the soviet union forced eastern european countries to organize their economic systems as a command economy . In 1989, the soviet union collapsed and all the eastern european countries that were once under communist control were free to organize themselves and their economies.
In 1990, Czechoslovakia was emerging from soviet domination and a command economy. Communism had dominated the czechs for about 50 year. during this time there was no unemployment and no competition in the marketplace.
