i cannot run more than one programme at a time in my xp2

I'am using xp2 and my configuration is 80GB HDD 512 RAM intel p4 processor when ever i run more than one programme at a time my system runs slow and audio running back ground is not clear

Take some actions.
* Run a anti virus program because speed can be slow down due to virus.
* press alt+ctrl+del and stop process of unnecessary program.
*When you turn on your computer some program automatically run on computer like anti virus program, yahoo, skype etc. check if these programs are not necessary the close them.
By taking these step system speed will increase.
